Who is Dr. Jane Goodall?

Dr. Jane Goodall braved the unknown to provide a remarkable window into humankind’s closest living relatives – chimpanzees.

Dr. Jane Goodall, DBE, founder of the Jane Goodall Institute & UN Messenger of Peace, started as an intrepid young woman with a dream to learn about animals in Africa. What is Becoming Jane?

The Becoming Jane exhibition tells the story of Dr. Jane Goodall’s life and work with chimpanzees and conservation. Over the years Dr. Goodall and her team have tracked the populations of chimpanzees and other African apes in the wild. Researchers estimate that the chimpanzee population has declined from 1 million in 1900 to less than 300,000 today.

Jane Goodall’s extraordinary engagement work has led to the establishment of the Jane Goodall Institute and the Roots & Shoots program. These groups have in turn done excellent work further engaging and inspiring others to take up Jane’s mission to protect the natural world.

Are there accessibility resources for the Becoming Jane exhibition?

Yes. Free accessibility tablets are available for those who speak Spanish or have reduced vision. Ask for one at the entrance of the exhibition.
